My name is Deb and my husband's name is Pat. We own a small, sustainable herb farm, in Porterfield, Wisconsin. Our goal is to teach you how to use the herbs you grow instead of just watching them go to seed every year. We would also like to share our passion about natural and organic products and lifestyle.
I teach the classes on the farm and show you how to make herbal medicine, herbal skin care products, herbal soaps, and culinary treats. Pat is the man that keeps the Learning Herb Gardens looking tidy and neat and helps with the many projects I conjure up!
I have received an Intensive Apprenticeship with Rosemary Gladstar in the Art & Science of Herbalism and I am currently completing Certification in Dynamic Organic Body Care Products and Certification in Aromatic Skin Applications through the East-West School of Herbal and Aromatic Studies. I have also taken classes in Organic and Sustainable Agriculture through the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
I have taught classes for Herb Shops, Garden Clubs, Red Hat Members, Women's Clubs, Community Ed Programs, School Groups, Northern Lights Master Gardeners, North Star Master Gardeners, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Elmcrest Acres Folk School, and here on the Farm.
We have an wonderful playground on the farm called the Learning Herb Garden that consists of 30 raised herb beds in two different "rooms". We take you right into the garden during the growing season so you can touch, feel, and even taste the herbs and flowers. We are strong believers in foraging and harvesting plants that some call weeds so please don't bend you brow at our dandelions, nettle, mullein, and burdock :)
The best teaching about herbs one can get is hands-on from the plants and trees themselves. Call us if you want to learn more about herbs, if you are interested in soap making and herb related classes in Wisconsin, or if you just desire to connect with someone who thinks like you do and have some fun!
